This Sunflower was photographed in an open field, and the perfect backlighting showed the depth of the petals, as well as their near-perfect alignment of light and shadow.

It seems Sunflowers are everywhere. I have seen them on a street corner in Phoenix, where they carved out just enough space next to the street to survive. I have seen fields of them in Northern Arizona and Colorado. Their ability to survive almost anywhere is a reminder to us that when we see their commitment to survival, we honor them with a smile. They will have done their job.
